Basics of the Christian
Faith What does it mean to be a Christian? How does trusting in Jesus assure for me an everlasting life with God? Just what is a Lutheran Christian anyway? What's the significance of baptism and communion? This 12 week class will give you the basics of the Christian teachings. Those who complete the class will be invited to become members at West Portal Lutheran Church but will be under no obligation to do so.
The Psalms were written by real people, who had real problems and joys. Just as God spoke to the writers of the Psalms, so He speaks to us today. Come and hear what He has to say to us in the Psalms.
Through videos, text and
discussion, the class will examine, from a Christian perspective, issues that affect and
challenge Christian beliefs. We will be examining the affect and influence of the
media - magazines, movies, books - upon the Church, theology and individuals. Watch
the Service bulletin for the current topic. Romans Paul's letter to the Christians in Rome lays out with force and clarity the "good news" he had been charged to deliver. Martin Luther considered Romans one of the most important books in the Bible and a work Christians should return to again and again. Our study will focus on understanding Paul's message in the context of New Testament times and for us today. |
